Nebraska StoryArts

Our dedicated group of Nebraska StoryArts volunteer board members, contracted tellers and workers fulfills our mission by organizing and implementing an array of storytelling events with a limited budget.

Our signature events include: the Moonshell Storytelling Festival; a summer workshop for adults and camp for boys & girls ages 9 to 18; Spooky Stories.
We conduct events and outreach programs for schools, libraries and community agencies.

Our mission is to preserve, perpetuate, and celebrate storytelling of all cultures and to nurture, sustain, and develop the storytelling community of tellers and listeners.
We're a lively bunch. If you'd like to help us out, become a member or volunteer or sponsor an event! Be part of the story.

 LINDA GORHAM

Linda loves fracturing familiar tales. 'Fracturing' involves taking a well-known fairy or folk tale and changing it in a way that makes it full of surprises – in characterization, plot modification, setting, narration style, point of view and more.

Some of Linda's ‘fractured and twisted’ stories include Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Little Pigs, Cinderella, The Frog Prince, The Three Bears, Three Billy Goats Gruff and The Gingerbread Man.

Come join the fun as we learn and practice fracturing techniques. You can do this!

JANICE DEL NEGRO

Drawing on her experiences as an award-winning storyteller, author, and editor, Del Negro discusses, demonstrates and mentors effective narrative word-craft.

Group and individual exercises, including word and language games, focus on the creation of potent visual language for openings, closings, and characterizations.

Participants leave having successfully completed concrete tasks related to their own working stories, as well as having acquired tools for future storywork.

Del Negro's list of presentations and publications is extensive and includes a textbook on storytelling coauthored with Ellin Greene; two children s picture books, the ALA Notable Book Willow and the Wind and Lucy Dove, which won the Anne Izard Storytellers Choice Award; and a collection of supernatural tales for young adults, Passion and Poison.
